About this site and how we research it
Requirements change. This page is an independent summary, not legal advice and not affiliated with any state board. Always confirm with the state board before you apply. Last reviewed: .
Barber License Atlas is an independent guide for barbers and barber students in the United States. We are not a government agency, a school or a state board, and we are not affiliated with any of them.
Where the data comes from
- Official sources only. Every requirement, hour count, fee and exam rule comes from the state's barber board, its official application forms, the state statute or the state administrative rule. We link the exact page we used.
- Review date on every page. Each page and each chart row shows when we last checked the source. The first chart was reviewed on October 21, 2026.
- No guessing. If an official page was unavailable, blocked our reader, or didn't state something clearly, we write "Verify with the board" and link the board's site.
- Our own words. We summarize; we don't copy other guides. Unofficial sites are never used as sources for requirements.
- Structured data. The facts live in one data file per topic, so updates are made once and reused across pages.
Limits
Boards change rules, fees and forms often, and individual cases (criminal history, foreign training, military status, apprenticeships) can change the answer. Use this site to prepare, then confirm with the board before you apply or pay.
Corrections
